Tummy Tucks in Ontario
After pregnancy and childbirth, abdominal muscles and skin are often weakened or stretched. When this happens, typically neither exercise nor weight loss will help, and additional weight loss can even accentuate the problem. During this procedure, Dr. Weinberg removes excess skin and fat, and tightens the underlying muscles.
Dr. Weinberg has a reputation for:
Innovation – He uses advanced techniques, including new "No Drains" approach that leads to a faster, more comfortable recovery.
Options – He offers "mini-tummy tuck" procedures, combination "Mommy Makeovers," and non-surgical body contouring with liposuction or high frequency ultrasound (Liposonix).
Results – His goal is to give his patients an aesthetic reduction of fat and loose skin with a minimally noticeable scar and natural looking belly button placement.
Safety – A fully accredited facility, certified staff, and shorter surgical time mean added safety.
Abdominoplasty is designed to flatten your abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure usually takes about 2 1/2 hours and is almost always performed under general anesthesia. A tummy tuck can be performed at the clinic or at Trillium Health Centre, where Dr. Weinberg is Chief of Plastic Surgery, depending on patient preference, extent of surgery, and the patient's general health. Most patients choose to have their surgery at the clinic, with its pleasant atmosphere and the personal attention of a private facility.
Mini-Tummy Tuck
Some patients who have an isolated pocket of fat immediately below the belly button may benefit from a mini-tummy tuck, a procedure in which a much smaller incision made below the belly button is sufficient to allow the removal of the necessary tissue to achieve a flat abdomen. This procedure takes only 45 minutes, and patients are back to work in a few days, and can resume normal exercise in 2 to 4 weeks. The scar is concealed in the lower abdominal fold.
No Drains Procedure
With Dr. Weinberg's new "no drains" procedure, because of the use of a novel type of suture called a Quill suture during abdominoplasty, patients can enjoy improved results and recovery. The sutures firmly adhere the overlying skin flap to the muscular abdominal wall. This has several advantages, including a firmer muscle repair, as well as reduced surgical time, which translates to an even safer procedure. It also eliminates any potential space between skin and muscle for fluid to accumulate, so there is no need for drains. This enhances the comfort level during recovery. Patients move more easily after surgery, and avoid the discomfort sometimes associated with drain removal.
Tummy Tuck Cost and Related Procedures
The cost of a tummy tuck can depend on several factors, including the amount of tissue removed and whether the procedure is performed in hospital or at the clinic. We offer patients a variety of ways to reduce total cost, such as combining a tummy tuck with other procedures. For example, a Mommy Makeover that combines a tummy tuck with breast surgery and liposuction may be more cost-effective and also involve a single recovery period.
After Your Procedure
Most of Dr. Weinberg's patients report that they can return to work within 2 to 4 weeks of a regular tummy tuck. After the procedure, patients are given an abdominal binder which they wear for the first 6 weeks. Patients are usually back to work in 2 to 4 weeks. Usually patients can return to strenuous activities and exercise in 4 to 6 weeks, and the scar may take 3 months to 2 years to fade.
