An abdominoplasty, also called a tummy tuck, removes excess fat and skin, and often tightens weakened or separated muscles creating a smoother, flatter tummy. A well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and diet, but sometimes stubborn fat is hard to lose. And, no amount of exercise or weight loss can combat loose skin. The most common causes of this include pregnancy, aging, and significant weight changes.
Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Also, tummy tuck operations cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be eliminated or improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be removed.
